St. Jerome's, Math announce "consolidation"
St. Jerome’s University and the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement that will provide for the consolidation of mathematics at the University of Waterloo. This agreement is effective May 1, 2014. As part of this agreement the faculty members in mathematics at St. Jerome's will join their colleagues in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
For St. Jerome’s University, the consolidation agreement provides the opportunity to build on its strengths in the Liberal Arts and develop programming that is aligned with its institutional mission and values. Although St. Jerome's will no longer co-register undergraduate students in mathematics, we are currently exploring with the Faculty of Mathematics future collaborative opportunities that will support mathematics at Waterloo.
For the Faculty of Mathematics, this agreement is part of a larger effort to consolidate and refocus the activities within the Faculty. For example, the Faculty continues to expand online learning opportunities, and recently has added communications course requirements for all of its undergraduates.
We look forward to continuing our work together.

Queuing up for spots in Parking Lot Q
It's the moment you've been waiting for since you heard the news about the University of Waterloo's purchase of the BlackBerry properties on the corner of Philip and Columbia:
The parking lot is open for business.
The newly-designated Parking Lot Q has more than 1,000 parking spaces, some 646 which are available for University of Waterloo parking permit holders. Through the lease agreement reached with BlackBerry for continued use of two of the properties, 450 of the parking lot's 1,096 spots will be guaranteed for BlackBerry employees (in a designated area).
"Any current Staff or Faculty parking permit holder can contact Parking Services at uparking@uwaterloo.ca or ext. 33100 if they wish to move to this new lot," says a message from Tom Galloway. "However, the Parking Advisory Committee has agreed that current Staff and Faculty permit holders in Parking Lot X or UWP will have first opportunity for Lot Q."
In the likely event that there are spaces remaining, other Staff and Faculty permit holders registering their interest will be reassigned to Lot Q.
"In the event during the process capacity is reached years of UW service will be used," writes Galloway.
Parking Services staff will also use existing waiting lists to reassign permit holders to other lots where vacancies may occur due to shifting to Lot Q.
Requests from all current Staff or Faculty permit holders for Lot Q reassignment should be registered by Monday, March 3. Reassignment to Lot Q for Lot X and UWP permit holders will commence as soon as possible. Other lot permit holders will be reassigned after March 4 as capacity allows.
"It should also be noted that Parking Services does not assign spaces to Staff or Faculty based on which building you work in," writes Galloway. "Accordingly, future occupants of the three new buildings will not have any priority when relocations take place. However, they can be reassigned if capacity allows or go on a waiting list if necessary."
Concrete flows at Science site Friday
A large concrete pour is scheduled for Friday, February 21 at the Science Teaching Complex construction site, and thus the Needles Hall access road from Ring Road will be closed between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. There will be a concrete mixer truck arriving every five minutes or so during the pour, and their layby will be on the Ring Road.
Barricades will be erected between Needles Hall and the construction site, and no pedestrian or vehicle traffic will be allowed.
All deliveries or EMS access will be through the EV3 roadway. G parking permit holders for the Needles Hall parking garage will be able to enter through the EV3 entrance and have access to D Lot through a barricade that will be supervised by a flagperson. All others, in the words of Plant Operations, will be turned away.
Empty concrete trucks will exit via the Arts quad to EV1 and to the Ring Road. Flagmen will be on-site and the UW Police will be make periodic appearances.
The pour was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but weather forecasts have pushed it back a few days.
