Support the Warriors with a Big Ticket

A message from Alumni Relations.

Warriors spectators with their Big Tickets. The successful Alumni Big Ticket sponsored by affinity partner Manulife Financial was first introduced to Waterloo alumni this September with great success.

The Big Ticket provides entrance for an alumnus and one guest to all regular season home games for football, men’s/women’s hockey, men’s/women’s basketball or men’s/women’s volleyball. As of November 7,834 people have registered for their Big Ticket.

Thirty percent of the stands were filled with alumni using their Big Ticket at a recent Warrior’s football game, which shows that alumni are taking advantage of their ticket to reconnect with the university, come back to campus and cheer on their Warriors from the stands.

The Big Ticket was used 483 times throughout the football season and we want alumni to take advantage of their Big Ticket for all our Warriors and holler from the stands for our volleyball, hockey, and basketball teams as well!

Attending these events is a way that our valued alumni can reconnect with the uWaterloo community and show their support and pride of being a Waterloo alumnus. The energy and excitement at these games makes for an enjoyable weekend event for alumni with their family and/or friends.

Alumni have until December 15 to register for the Big Ticket before they run out.

Look what some Big Ticket pass holders have to say:

I am an avid sports fan and ‘The Big Ticket’ is perfect for me to be able to bring a friend and attend any event I want. It’s been great seeing the larger crowds this year so far and this adds to the enjoyment and excitement of attending these events. I think the Big Ticket is something that differentiates uWaterloo from other universities and another reason I’m proud to be an alumnus.

— Joe, BMath 1983

The Big Ticket program is an amazing way to keep uWaterloo alumni engaged and involved in the community.  It’s a great opportunity and motivator to keep alumni in the Black and Gold spirit by cheering on our varsity athletes.  I've attended several football games myself and I can tell you: cheering isn't just for undergrads anymore!

Register for yours today and watch the Warriors in action this weekend!

George and Louise Schroeder with guests.
Celebrating a couple's 40 years of philanthropy

by Brent Thornhill, Office of Advancement.

George and Louise Schroeder are passionate about helping university students get a great education.

Through a fund they established in 1973, the Schroeders have been helping students at Conrad Grebel University College for four decades. The George and Louise Schroeder Residence Award is one of the first to be established for students living in residence at Conrad Grebel.

“Back then, Grebel was in its early stages of development. We thought one way to help grow the school’s population was to support students through scholarships,” explains George.

“Our campus is a close-knit community and this award recognizes students who enhance the Grebel experience of those around them,” says Conrad Grebel President Susan Schultz Huxman.” Previous recipients have been involved in campus orientation week, student council, the Peace Society, and have served as residence Dons.

Although the Schroeders themselves are not Grebel alumni, two of their children lived at the college and are University of Waterloo alumni.

The couple enjoys the opportunity to connect with students who have received their support over the years. “It is so gratifying to hear from students who have benefited from our giving,” says Louise. “We enjoy attending events where we get to talk with students who come from all over the world to attend this great institution. We feel very much a part of the Grebel family.”

Last month, during Conrad Grebel’s annual Scholarship and Bursary Awards celebration, George and Louise were recognized for their outstanding philanthropy.

“We are proud that, over the years, we have helped more than 80 students to have a wonderful university experience,” says George.
