Two more sites launched in new look
Two websites have recently been launched in the university's central web content management system (WCMS): the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences (AHS), and uWaterloo Web Resources.
"AHS is the second faculty-level website to migrate into the WCMS," says the announcement from Web Resources," after the Faculty of Environment. Housing and Residences is also among the first early adopters of the WCMS and is the first academic support-unit to migrate. The new AHS website features navigation by audience as well as topic, improved accessibility, and some new content to better serve website visitors and to meet new university-wide content guidelines for all of the faculties."
The Web Resources website provides training-and-support information for the WCMS as well as information about other web resources, such as web-related Skills for the Electronic Workplace (SEW) courses. The Web Resources website is intended to be a “hub” for website maintainers at Waterloo, providing information about technical support, resources on other websites (e.g. web-accessibility tools), and training opportunities.
Staff association seeks committee members
The University of Waterloo Staff Association is encouraging its members to apply for staff representation on the Nominating Committee. Three positions are available for a term that runs from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013. "The purpose of the University of Waterloo Staff Association Nominating Committee," says the notice sent to all members, "is to nominate and/or appoint regular full and part-time Staff Association members as representatives" to university or UWSA standing committees, and university or UWSA Ad Hoc committees that require staff representatives.
The Nominating Committee terms of reference can be found online and information about UWSA committees is available on the Staff Association website.
Interested parties should submit the application for committee members either online, or by sending a filled-out copy to the chair of the UWSA Nominating Committee, Gail Spencer, at uwsanominate@ uwaterloo.ca (DC 3608) by Friday, December 23.
Monday's notes
And now a few items of interest as we kick off the final week before the holiday break:
Today is the deadline for the payment of student fees, according to Student Accounts.
After a review of the purpose, reach, and usage of the Student Resource Office, the Federation of Students, the Graduate Student Association, and the University of Waterloo have decided to close the office and redirect inquires as follows:
• Student Success Office for general inquiries regarding resources and student support
• Federation of Students and Graduate Student Association for student advocacy issues
• Housing and Residences for off-campus housing and landlord issues
• Matt Erickson, Director of Conflict Management and Human Rights, for conflict resolution, harassment and discrimination issues.
Any additional questions about the Student Resource Office can be directed to Virginia Young in the Student Success Office, Matt Colphon, FedS president, or Mike Makahnouk, GSA President.
Located on the third floor of the Student Life Centre, the Student Resource Office was the successor to the Office of the Ombudsperson, which was reorganized in 2009.
JobMine, the online system that Co-operative Education and Career Services (CECS) uses to help expedite the uWaterloo recruitment process, will not be available between December 19 and 23 for a full week of planned maintenance. Says Olaf Naese, Communications and Public Relations Administrator for CECS, "This maintenance will include the addition of recruiting support for the Dubai campus and organizational redesign elements for Co-operative Education and the Centre for Career Action."
During the shutdown all Waterloo user access will be temporarily unavailable. "To minimize inconvenience to users, the shutdown was planned to coincide with the point in the term when on-campus employer interviews have concluded and most students are writing exams," Naese explains.
