Designed to give a head start to students facing co-op interviews for the first time this fall or winter, the course will be run with online conference groups composed of six students and a "trained resume expert/online facilitator". Each group member will be required to play an active role by posting a resume and giving feedback on the work of others. Reference materials will be provided online.
Why disrupt your summer holidays with a course? According to the co-op department:
Eligible co-op students must have an email address, access to the Web with a current Web browser, and be willing to commit an average of an hour or two daily during the term of the course. The deadline for registration is Friday, August 8, and enrolment is limited to the first 84 students. For more information, phone ext. 2009.

There's a certain irony -- and a certain convenience -- in learning an ancient language through a modern technology. Ecce, Latin lessons on the World Wide Web, as devised by Lucinda Neuru and Len Curchin of UW's classical studies department, and put in place by Carl Hennig of the language laboratory, as "the computer component of Latin 100".
Says Hennig:
The lesson pages currently exist primarily as a showcase of computer based learning on the web using existing programmes. The idea is to present to students the same or similar material they would encounter when attending a scheduled computer lab. This is not distance education. No supplementary teaching material is provided. We are presently assuming the students have attended classes. The language lab also operates a collection of German lessons, devised by Erwin Warkentin of the Germanic and Slavic department. The future of the web site is toward distance education. To that end we are acquiring professional level authoring tools designed to deliver content via the WWW. One of our goals is to be able to use the same lessons on both the web and our computer lab. Hopefully reducing development time and redundancy. As a matter of fact, we see no reason why we cannot use a web browser to deliver the lessons to students in the computer lab.
I wrote the lessons in Microsoft Visual Basic and installed them on our Watstar server. The lessons are small modules and self contained, but required a runtime module to be downloaded before the programmes are run for the first time. The lessons have been designed to be used "off-line" and I encourage users to collect all of the lessons and run them as often as desired.
