The WatCard is coming
"A new multi-purpose
identification card", to be called the WatCard, will be introduced this
summer, the registrar's office announced yesterday. All students -- new
and returning -- will get one in September, and staff and faculty members
can also get a card if they want.
The card is actually being administered by the food services department,
and will replace the "Value Plus" food card as well as the student
photo ID card. A "WatCard office" is being set up at food services
headquarters in the General Services Complex.
Says a memo from assistant registrar Jim Boniface:
A digitized photo will replace the current polaroid photo for
undergraduate and graduate students. A Distance Education logo will be
placed in the space normally occupied by the photo for students who
wish to have an identification card but are unable to come to campus.
The new card will serve as a student ID card and Library card, but can
also optionally be used at outlets that honour the Food Services card.
A schedule outlining dates, times and locations has been prepared and
will be distributed with the students' registration packages. Registration
and WHMIS stickers will be issued to authorized students at the issuing
sites for both new students and returning students who will be replacing
their current card.
The WatCard will also be available to faculty and staff. . . . The
cards are expected to be available in mid-August.
The card will bear a colour photo of the new Student Centre.
