Get those ballots in today
Are you a member of the
staff
association? Then this note from Sharon Lamont, the association's
1995 president, is for you:
As of noon Monday, 46.5% of the ballots distributed last week have been
returned to the SA office; therefore, we need 30 more ballots returned by
tomorrow for the vote regarding changes to the constitution to be valid.
If you have not returned your ballot, please do so.
Interrupting the air conditioning
Doesn't seem like a bad time of year to shut off the cooling system
for a few hours, does it?
The plant operations department sends word that chilled water --
in other words, air conditioning -- will be turned off in parts of several
buildings at various times today through Thursday.
The notices say the shutoffs are happening so a crew can "extend
cooling loop".
Affected are rooms on the second floor of Chemistry 2 this morning,
third floor this afternoon; parts of Earth Sciences and Chemistry and
Biology 1 tomorrow morning, and ESC tomorrow afternoon; Biology 1
on Thursday morning. Information: ext. 3320.
Show in Humanities tonight
The Ontario Ballet Theatre production of "The Nutcracker" comes to the
Humanities Theatre at 7 tonight and again tomorrow and 2 and 7 p.m.
It's sponsored by city hall's Waterloo Showtime series, and tickets
($17, students $15) are available from the Humanities box office.
Says a publicity blurb: "Experience the magic of a beloved holiday
tradition! The world's most popular ballet is a miracle of imagination
and colour. This brand-new, full-length staging features 26 dancers in
88 marvellous costumes against splendid original backdrops. The
Nutcracker is a magnificent fantasy of good and evil in the grand
style of old Russian ballets."
There's another production of "The Nutcracker" in town this week, by
the way, with Ballet Jorgen performing at Centre in the Square in
downtown Kitchener. Must be the Christmas season. . . .
'Tis the season to go surfing
Speaking of Christmas,
for those whose fingers and Web browsers have nothing much to do in this
last week before the holiday, here are a few seasonal sites that might be
worth checking out. (With the aid of the Open Text Index, created by
the UW spinoff
Open Text Corporation, I did
look for useful Web sites touching on Chanukah and Kwanzaa, but haven't
found anything.)
Graphics closing early today
'Tis also the season for departmental Christmas parties. So that the
staff in graphic services can attend their celebration, various graphics
facilities -- the Davis Centre and Dana Porter copy centres and
Graphics Express -- will be closing early today, at 5:30 p.m.
