Daily Bulletin, Tuesday, May 17, 1994 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, first of all, to Brian Hendley, the dean of arts -- one of two, among UW's six faculty deans, to have been born in Milwaukee. SUCCESSES: The Professional Women's Association holds its annual general meeting tonight (University Club, 7 to 9 p.m.). On the program is "Challenging the System: A Panel Discussion of Members' Successes". CENTRAL STRUCTURE: UW's president, James Downey, told the university senate last night that he's received the report of the President's Advisory Committee on Central Administrative Structure. That's the four-member committee that was asked to review the university's top management, including president and vice-presidents, associate provosts, university secretary and treasurer, and deans of graduate studies and research. Downey said it will likely take him about a month to review the report and talk over its recommendations with the top officials who are affected. Then he'll announce what changes he is introducing in the structure of the senior administration, and will make the PACCAS report public at the same time. The senate last night also approved UW's 1994-95 budget, which goes on to the board of governors at its June 7 meeting. EMPLOYER HONOURS: Three units at UW are among 32 employers in Waterloo Region to be honoured tomorrow by the Ontario ministry of community and social services. The awards are for employers who have contributed to employment equity, particularly for disabled people. The three UW units receiving such honour: Beaver Foods at Renison College, "because of their ability to help participants make an easier transition from vocational rehabilitation to employment". Beaver Foods at St. Jerome's College, "a committed team to deliver a high-quality product". The user services department in the Davis Centre library, "for offering two placements". WATCH FOR tomorrow's Gazette, with a listing of activities by the dozen during Campaign Week in late May. You can walk around the ring road, trace the history of the universe, fly a kite or dunk a bureaucrat -- all these are among special events organized by the Community Campaign council and the development office, as morale builders and enthusiasm builders for the campaign. And it all leads up to the Campaign picnic on Wednesday, June 1, of which more later.
