MUSIC TO HIS EARS: A tune is wafting across campus, says somebody in the
Math Faculty Computing Facility whose name is "System Privileged Account".
SPA posted this inquiry to uw.general this morning: "It's 9:00, and there
is some bird singing: three short trills and then one long deeper `whoop.'
You can hear it near the MC! Does anybody know what type it is?"

NSERC MEETING: Joan Hadley of the research office passes along a notice
from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council about a meeting
that describes itself as "important". It's a regional information session
for people who might want to get in on the next round of Networks of Centres
of Excellence funding. "A large contingent of representatives from industry
and government as well as universities are expected to attend. . . .NSERC
will be organizing sign-up tables for each of the five target areas. . . .
This will help participants to identify the relevant stakeholders and
potential collaborators in their area of interest." The meeting is being
held this Thursday, starting at 9:30, at the Toronto Airport Sheraton
Gateway hotel. Hadley, at ext. 3433, has more information.

AN ACHIEVEMENT: Bonnie Neglia of the civil engineering department has
another 26.2 miles to add to her road-racing record. The Kitchener-Waterloo
Record reports that Neglia was among the winners in the recent Midnight
Sun Marathon on Baffin Island, finishing first among women over 40.
