STATUS OF WOMEN: Here are a few more selected recommendations from the
report on "The Status of Women at the University of Waterloo", published
last week:

(17a) There should be at least another half-time appointment/
secondment to Women's Studies, preferably to someone in a faculty
other than Arts in order to emphasize the interdisciplinary nature
     of the field.

(19a) There shold be a university-wide policy requiring the use of
gender-neutral language in all official documents and media produced
     at or for the University.

(22b) A "retroactive" exit questionnaire should be sent to those
women (faculty) who have left UW since 1986.

     (23) The University of Waterloo should promptly commit itself to,
and widely publicize, a Zero Tolerance policy in order to make it
clear to all members of the community that sexual harassment will not
be tolerated, and that confirmed instances of sexual harassment will
     be subject to disciplinary action.

MEETINGS SCHEDULED: The faculty of environmental studies holds a meeting
of its general assembly at 2 p.m. today (ES 1 room 221).

The university senate meets at 7:30 tonight in Needles Hall 3001. The agenda
emphasizes routine reports from committees, and there's also this motion,
to be introduced by graduate student Duncan Phillips: "That Senate support
the formation of an ad hoc committee to review and develop methods to
evaluate graduate student supervision and which will report back to Senate
through the Senate Graduate Council. The Committee shall also make
recommendations as to how the evaluations should be used in annual
performance reviews etc."

Tomorrow, the pension and benefits committee meets from 9 a.m. to noon
(Needles Hall 3004). Along with other business, the committee will be
discussing whether the 1993-94 reduction in pension plan contributions
should be continued. The reduction saved some $1.7 from UW's budget
this year, and the senate finance committee has been expressing hope that
it can be continued to provide more budget relief in 1994-95.

LIBRARY HOURS: After exams end on Thursday, the UW libraries will be
open somewhat reduced hours for a couple of weeks until the spring term
begins. Highlights of the schedule from April 22 through May 1:

The Dana Porter and Davis Centre libraries will be open Monday to Friday
8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, closed. The University Map and
Design Library will be open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 6; weekends, closed.

Circulation service will be available Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to
5 p.m. (8:30 to 4:30 in the UMD library). The information desks will
be in operation Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (in the UMD library,
8:30 to noon and 12:30 to 4:30). The government publications desk in
Dana Porter will be open Monday to Friday, noon to 4 p.m.

PARTING ADVICE: The electric sign in the co-op department, on the first
floor of Needles Hall, has just one message these days, running past over
and over: "Co-op Students: Still not placed? Please hand in 30 resume
packages to co-op reception before leaving campus." There must still be hope.
