DOUBLE U'S, the food services outlet on the main level of South Campus
Hall, actually has coffee this morning. Food and the rest of the furnishings
are expected in a day or so, and the sign -- oh, one of these days.
Double U's is the successor to Pastry Plus, and is located just outside
the snazzy new entrance to the UW Shop.

GOOD BEHAVIOUR: Today brings the first of several open meetings with a
committee set up to advise UW's provost on "desirable changes to UW
policies and procedures dealing with harassment, prejudicial discrimination,
and other unethical behaviour, including how existing policies, procedures
and committees might be effectively rationalized". The committee is
chaired by Greg Bennett of the statistics and actuarial science department.
It's looking at UW Policy 33 in detail, meeting with people who have had
experience with related policies and procedures, and inviting advice from
the whole campus.

Today's open meeting runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Arts Lecture room 113.
It's intended particularly for undergraduate students, though everyone is
welcome to attend. (Future meetings, same place and hour, are slanted to
graduate students on September 29; faculty on October 4; staff on October
6; church college people on October 11. A general session is set for
October 13.)

STAFF MEMBERS interested in commenting on the proposed revisions to Policy 18,
particularly the section having to do with termination of staff members
whose jobs become redundant, are reminded that tomorrow is the deadline set
by the staff relations committee for comments. They can be sent to its
secretary, Dianne Scheiffele, in the university secretariat, and it was
made clear last week that unsigned comments will also be considered.

CLUBS DAYS are starting in the Campus Centre. Today, tomorrow and Thursday,
from 10 to 3, look for some 50 officially recognized student clubs to have
displays of their cultural, political, spiritual and recreational activities.

One club has a special event of its own tonight: the Chinese Students'
Association has announced an "informal gathering and dance" from 7 p.m.
to midnight at Federation Hall. Tickets are $12 at the door (members
$7 in advance). Tickets and memberships are available at the CSA counter
on the third floor of the Math and Computer building from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. today.

THE WATER will be turned off in two buildings tomorrow from 3 p.m. to
midnight. The shutdown affects Engineering I and South Campus Hall,
and is taking place so the new sprinkler system in SCH can be connected.

THIS BULLETIN has reached record readership in the past few days. There's
no way to count how many hundreds of people read it on uw.general and
uw.campus-news, unfortunately, but UWinfo does keep an automatic log of
the number of connections through that mechanism. As of last Thursday,
the Daily Bulletin has been recording more than 500 readers over UWinfo
in each 24-hour period. My thanks to both loyal readers and new ones --
and a reminder that I'm able to keep the Bulletin lively only with
the help of people who let me know what's going on. I especially welcome
notes before 9 a.m. about overnight news.
