STAFF MEMBER MOURNED: Doreen Stahle, a staff member in the Waterloo
Centre for Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, died Friday evening.
She was well known on campus from her years in several other departments
as well. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. at
St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Waterloo.

SOCIAL CONTRACT: "Sectoral" talks resume in Toronto tomorrow, with the
colleges and universities "table" including representatives of government,
university management, and employee groups.

There should be lively discussion of the whole Social Contract issue at
a noon-hour meeting today of the "staff compensation subcommittee" of UW's
staff association.

SENATE WILL MEET: The university senate meets this evening (Needles Hall
3001, 8 p.m., following a 7 p.m. reception). The agenda is reasonably
short, with the main item being the report of the Subcommittee on Established
Non-Regular Instructional Personnel, as reported in last week's Gazette.
However, this will be the first senate meeting chaired by UW's new president,
Jim Downey, and it would be reasonable to expect some eloquent remarks from
him as well as comments on Social Contract and related issues from the
provost, Alan George.
