READY OR NOT: Those thousands of new students are here, not to mention
thousands of returning students, and registration is in full swing in the
Physical Activities Complex.

The reception for parents of new first-year students, held in Federation
Hall yesterday, was a success, I'm told, and orientation activities got
off to a good start in spite of the rain. A commendation is due to the
students who were out at the University Avenue entrance to campus with
umbrellas, balloons and broad smiles!

ORIENTATION ACTIVITIES: Today's main event is a 12:30 pep rally in the
PAC main gym, featuring -- if it's anything like last year's -- psychedelic
lights and earsplitting shouts. Afterwards the thousands of newcomers will
assemble outside in the shape of a giant "UW" for an overhead photo. Most
faculties will be holding parties tonight; among the more serious events
is a talk by the Warden and Tutors in Village 2 (7 p.m.).

Renison College will revive an old tradition by holding an opening
Convocation in St. Bede's Chapel at 4 p.m., followed by a College dinner.

SINGLE AND SEXY: This "collective play about sexual attitudes" will be
performed in the Theatre of the Arts, Modern Languages Building, today at
11 and 2:30, Wednesday at 9 and 10:30, thursday at 9:30, 11 and 2:30.
Admission is free.

TERRY FOX RUN: Word is that this annual event, to raise money for cancer
research, will be happening Sunday, September 19, with the starting point
being UW's Federation Hall (1 p.m.). That's about all the information
received so far. Organizers of events on campus, of whatever kind, are
urged to send details to this office early, so they can be announced in
the Gazette, in the "Events" section of UWinfo, and (where appropriate)
in this Daily Bulletin. You can find us in Needles Hall 3041.

AND WELCOME to new students who may have discovered the Daily Bulletin
already! Welcome also to returning students who haven't been here since
last winter term; the Bulletin will be new to them as well, having been
introduced in May.
